West Wales Motorcycle Show - History

West Wales Motorcycle Show History

The West Wales Motorcycle Show was originally intended as a one-off, single day event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of Carmarthen & District Motorcycle Club.
First held in August 2006, money raised at the event enabled the Club to donate considerable sums to the charities it supported, and the event was so successful that a second, one-day, event was held on the following year.

Now in its 6th year, the show has developed into a two-day event held on the United Counties Showground at Carmarthen, taking advantage of the extensive spaces & buildings available for stunt displays, trade stands, exhibition vehicles, camping, catering, craft stalls, children’s corner, and of course, visitor parking.

Following popular demand, the 2011 show, included licensed bars, weekend camping and evening entertainment for the first time, and in collaboration with local auctioneers Peter Francis & Co, their annual Classic Car & Bike sale was held at the event, with rows of Classic and Vintage vehicles for sale.

The event organisation was transferred to a non-profit, ‘Social Enterprise’ company “West Wales Motorcycle Show Ltd.” in 2010. Founded by Carmarthen & District Motorcycle Club members, the intention was to create a dedicated, limited liability company to oversee the management of the show while allowing the Club committee to concentrate on club matters. The prime objective of the company was to organise the show promoting motorcycling in all its aspects, and to raise funds in support of the show’s nominated charities.

In order to improve its fund-raising capabilities, The “West Wales Motorcycle Show Ltd.” applied for charitable status in the spring of 2011. Following amendments to its name and articles to meet Charities Commission requirements, charitable status was granted to the company, now known as the “West Wales Motorcycling Trust”, in July 2011.

The Trust oversees the management of the show and arranges the charitable disbursements from funds raised at the event and from the donations it receives. The Directors and Trustees of the organization are all volunteers who give their time freely without personal gain.

The Trust is now fully involved in organising the 2012 ‘West Wales Motorcycle Show’ which will be held on August 18th & 19th at the United Counties Showground in Carmarthen.
