Owen and Pauline Williams
Hi Everybody,
Just to introduce my wife and myself. I am Owen (known as O.C.) and my wife is Paula. We have been married 38 years in July and have 2 sons who are both in good jobs and are happily married. I work for the Civil Service but not as a white collar worker. My wife teaches Mathematics in a local Comprehensive School. I semi-retired two years ago and this year my wife reduced her working hours to 3 days a week. Hence I’m a revitalized biker having ridden bikes back in the 80s and then restarted 2 years ago. This is my 3rd bike since then and it is the Kawasaki 1600 Classic Cruiser. Paula comes on as pillion as much as she can and loves it as much as I love riding it. I must say I am converted to the Cruiser style ride, although I do get a yen for the fantastic plastic ride but it would have to be without the wife! As far as bikes are concerned I am sorry I don’t do technical just enjoy filling up with petrol and riding.
I’ve had the cruiser for 13 months and am approaching 20 000 miles so it hasn’t spent a lot of time in the garage. I only use it for leisure as I’d rather do my commuting by car. Last August we had our first major bike tour – spending over 3 weeks in Europe. We stopped at a few places in France, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Belgium and then finished off with a few days in Normandy visiting the landing beaches. This I found a very moving experience. We covered around 3000 miles and had a fantastic time. In May of this year we spent a week in Ireland and took in most of the coast and all the major cities. 1600 miles – and weather was beautiful. In June I went with a few biker mates to France for a week (wife had to work). Fantastic time all round. In August we are biking it in Scotland for a week.
