Easter Egg Run 2011

Sunday the 18th of April was the 15th Easter egg run organized by the Carmarthen & District Motorcycle Club, taking Easter Eggs to Children at Cilgerran ward at Glangwili Hospital Carmarthen and ward 9, the children’s ward at Withybush Hospital Haverfordwest. Prior in the week 25 Easter Eggs had been delivered to the Myrddin Special Needs & Autistic Unit at Brewery Road, Carmarthen.

35 members and 30 motorcycles were in attendance, meeting at Hagan’s café in Pensarn for breakfast prior to the run.  A contributions of £2 each was collected

towards the eggs and after  a quick  briefing  by  the President Allan Davies in absence of Paul Webb the chairman, who unfortunately was confined to the house as he had not finished the ironing, hoovering and jam making, we departed for Glangwili Hospital in basking sunshine at approximately 10.55am.

On arrival at Glangwili Hospital we took a group photograph prior to our visit to Cilgerran ward. We delivered 12 Easter Eggs to the children on the ward and it was nice to see the expressions on their young faces when they were presented with the Eggs. After consuming some refreshments laid on  for us,  we made our way back to the car park to meet the rest of the members who were enjoying the morning sunshine, we departed at 11.55am on route via the rear of the hospital, enabling the children to see the motorbikes.

We made our way to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest using the drop off system and arrived at the hospital at approximately 12.40pm. Again on arrival at Withybush we had another photograph taken. We were greeted   by the staff of ward 9 who introduced us to the children, three were on day leave to return later on in the evening. All the children were given an egg each which they were extremely grateful, three eggs were placed aside for children returning later and a extra little egg for Freddy a brother of one of the patients. After a cup of tea, coffee or different cold drinks, chocolate biscuits etc. we said our good byes and made our way back to the car park to meet the rest of the gang.

We departed from Withybush  Hospital to Ken and Hazel’s ranch in Letterston where as usual a five star afternoon tea had been laid on for us. An array of delicious cakes including hot cross buns, yes they were hot, and my favourite home made lemon cake along with liquid refreshments including plenty of sunshine to compliment the afternoon tea. After basking in the sun and stuffing ourselves silly [well I did] it was time to go, with great difficulty, throwing one leg over the bike seemed harder than when I arrived. A sedate run home via Kilgetty, Red Roses and Pendine. We stopped at a biker’s friendly café in Pendine  named  Parry’s for an ice cream or whatever took your fancy, by the way  there are bike parking facilities outside the café. Many thanks to those who attended and contributed their hard earned cash including those who also brought eggs along, also to those who apologised for their absence, however still contributing their donation. Welcome to new members and I trust you enjoyed the company as much as we did yours, a big thank you to Ken & Hazel for their generous hospitality.

I am pleased to say that nobody got lost [did you hear that Phil] and all the eggs reached the children in good order despite the blazing sun. Again many thanks for your support, and I trust you had an enjoyable day.

A special thanks to Carmarthen & Pembrokeshire blinds who sponsored our ride out today.
